Place de la Concorde

Want to take a step back in time and walk in the footsteps of Parisian history? We suggest a visit to The Place de la Concorde, an evocative, haunting memorial to those who have gone before.

Just a five-minute walk from the hotel, the Place de la Concorde was originally designed by Jacques-Ange Gabriel in 1748 to be a prominent site within the city. It achieved a more lurid significance during the French Revolution as the square became a bloodstained stage when it housed the guillotine as the city descended into anarchy and King Louis XVI met his unfortunate fate here.

Today The Place De La Concorde has a much more positive image associated with it as the finish line for the annual Tour de France bicycle race.

For those who appreciate architecture, urban planning, and design, the Place De La Concorde is also noteworthy.

The large Obelisk in the center is used as a landmark for Parisians and the nearby rue Royale is framed by two symmetrical monuments: on the right, the Hôtel de la Marine, and on the left the Hôtel de la Monnaie, now the Hôtel de Crillon. Situate yourself in the center of the Place de la Concorde, near the Obelisk, and experience a breathtaking perspective as you see in alignment the Arc de Triomphe, the Champs Elysees, and farther away, the Arch of Defense. This is one view of Paris you do not want to miss.
